FAQS

It is important for you to know if we are the right fit as counsellor and client. Below you will find a compilation of the most common questions I’ve been asked about the service I provide. If you still have questions after reading through the FAQs, please give me a call or send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

FAQs: FAQs

HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION?

Please send an enquiry and if possible the nature of what you would like to work on in counselling and I will get back to you as soon as I can with my availability

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

I ask for at least 48 hours notice to cancel or rearrange a session, or payment is to be made in full. This is waivered in exceptional or unavoidable circumstances.

DO YOU DO ONLINE COUNSELLING AS WELL AS FACE TO FACE?

Yes, I do online sessions using Zoom software and also offer telephone counselling, in addition to my face to face work.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR APPROACH AND CBT?

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) works more on challenging thinking and behaviours, with tasks based around this. In person-centred counselling, the aim is to allow you to talk more freely and explore on a deeper level what is going on for you. My role is to facilitate and guide you through your thoughts and feelings to help you find a way forward and to explore any blocks along the way.

WHO MONITORS OR ASSESSES YOUR PRACTICE?

I have regular confidential supervision with a skilled supervisor to discuss and evaluate my client work. This is in line with the requirements of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I also undertake regular professional development, again as required by the BACP, and have access to their guidance for ethical and legal matters.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WOULD I NEED TO HAVE?

Whilst there is no fixed or minimum amount of sessions, I suggest that you commit to six sessions to start with, ideally weekly. This helps us to explore your situation in more detail and to gain some momentum. For more deep-rooted problems it can take time to work through these as well as to build the trusting relationship to do this. We will regularly review how the work is going and the stage we both feel the work is at.

WHERE DO YOU WORK FROM?

I work from Regus offices in Clifton Moor, which has parking and disabled access. I also work online and over the telephone.
